New Year & 6 Month Wrap Up

A new year, new clients, changes in the market, events to attend, parties to hold… it has been an exciting 6 months here at Moustache Republic. So, we thought it was time to share what we have been up to in our usual 6-month wrap up.
Here are the highlights of what we’ve accomplished and what the team has been working on over the last half year.
The shift to SaaS-based eCommerce solutions
We have continued our journey of moving from self-hosted eCommerce platforms (like Magento) to SaaS solutions such as Shopify and BigCommerce. So far, we’ve seen a reduction in build costs and quicker turnaround times for getting sites to market.
Clients who have migrated to SaaS platforms are also enjoying reduced costs of ownership and improved usability. But our websites are not just any SaaS template sites. In true Moustache Republic style, we’ve been pushing the boundaries of these platforms—building private apps that extend functionality in ways we never thought possible.
The platforms are now more flexible and extendable than ever before—finally ready for enterprise-level businesses. We’re extremely proud of two fashion sites we recently launched on SaaS:
- Coast New Zealand – BigCommerce
- Nicholas Jermyn – Shopify
Both were designed and built from scratch, with no compromises on custom design.
Public Speaking – Tony and Christo
We don’t just build websites at Moustache Republic. We also love to share our knowledge with like-minded business professionals.
In 2017, Tony had the pleasure of speaking at E-Commerce 121 alongside Jason Greenwood in July, sharing insights on achieving a true omni-channel experience for retailers through modern technology.
Christo, our Marketing Director, also spoke at the Digital Marketing Innovation Summit in November, where he shared his passion for social media marketing and its impact on brands in 2018.
These events gave us great opportunities to connect with industry peers, and we’re definitely looking forward to more public speaking in the near future.
noissue Tissue
noissue.co is an online tissue business that allows SMEs to customise and purchase branded wrapping tissue directly online. It’s a collaboration project between our friend Josh, Auguste, and the team at Moustache Republic.
We successfully launched V2 of the site in January, with features like automatic SVG conversion for logos (enabling easy colouring and resizing), plus full mobile responsiveness. Marketing is now in full swing.

MR Suite
Late last year, we worked with HealthPost to streamline their omni-channel commerce operation via integration. Out of that came MR Suite, a new product that connects ERP, POS, website, loyalty programme, and WMS systems together.
Built on Laravel 5, MR Suite features a comprehensive queueing system to handle high request volumes from multiple systems. We’re continuing to develop it in 2018 to help more clients achieve true omni-channel retail solutions.
The Epic Moustache Xmas Party
We had plenty to celebrate this year - client wins, speaking events, team growth, and the arrival of our 14th team member, Alexandra.
As always, our annual epic Christmas party was the perfect way to mark these achievements. For four years now, we’ve had the same tradition: two days and two nights away together, with plenty of fun and activities.
